Obituary of Florence Abel

Florence Louise Abel Florence Louise Friedlander Abel, just two weeks from her 90th birthday, died peacefully on March 14, 2012. She was the beloved daughter of the late Jack Friedlander, and Gertrude Himelhock Friedlander. Florence was born in Toledo, Ohio and was a resident of Florida for more than 50 years. She moved to Charlotte, NC in 2011. Florence was a founding member of Temple Judea in Coral Gables, Florida for 20 years, where she was also a member of the Temple sisterhood. She was a docent at the University of Miami Art Gallery during the 1970?s. Mrs. Abel enjoyed water aerobics at the Bob Sierra YMCA in Tampa, FL for over 24 years, where she was considered the ?life of the pool?. In addition to water aerobics Florence enjoyed yoga, reading, cooking, knitting, and dressmaking. She created many of the beautiful knit gowns that she wore to her frequent evening events. Florence is survived by two of her daughters, Sandy M. Abel of Sacramento, CA and Janet S. Abel of Matthews, NC. She is also survived by two granddaughters Mikaele and Sarah; and two great-grandsons, Keegan and Quinn. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Barbara Abel Holzer in 1999 and her son-in-law Michael Martin in 2009. A service to celebrate Florence?s life will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 12 NOON at Temple Beth El, 5101 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226 In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to any local chapter of The American Cancer Society or to Temple Beth El , General Fund.
