Obituary of Evelyn Owens

Evelyn S. Owens Mrs. Owens 87, of Charlotte died Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Evelyn was born November 14, 1924 in Petersburg, VA daughter of the late Joseph and Hattie Stewart. She was a graduate of Petersburg High School and attended the University of Virginia. Evelyn was employed with the Civil Service as a supervisor at Ft. Lee, Virginia, where she met and fell in love with her late husband, Frank A. Owens, Jr. She was the past president of the Shamrock Gardens and past vice president of the Char-Meck Council of PTA?s. Survivors include her daughters, Vicki Smith and husband, Bob, Kim Wishon and husband, Hal and Carol Shackelford and husband, Russell; son, Frank A. Owens, III and wife, Susie; grandchildren, Kyle, Bobby, David, Brett, Kelly, Kevin, Lauren, Ashley, Hannah and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Hankins & Whittington Friday evening March 23, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A private family service will be held later. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th St. Charlotte, NC 28204 or the Family Life Center, 10314 Warren Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23060.
