Obituary of William Youngblood

William Lester Youngblood ?Dutch? Mr. Youngblood, 97, of Charlotte, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 23, 2012. He was born in Mecklenburg County January 14, 1915, son of the late John Franklin and Irene Byrum Youngblood. Mr. Youngblood graduated from Berryhill High School in 1932. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. Following his service in the army, Mr. Youngblood worked for Belk for 45 years. After retiring, he volunteered for the American Red Cross and Presbyterian Hospital. Mr. Youngblood was active in his church and community. He was an Elder Emeritus and Sunday school teacher for many many years at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. He served the community in the Steele Creek Volunteer Fire Department being Chief of Department for 10 years and then was one of the first EMT?s in the Steele Creek Rescue Squad. Mr. Youngblood was also an Assistant Pack Master with cub scouts, active in the American Legion and the 5th Army Air Force Foundation. In addition to his parents, Mr. Youngblood was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Martha Stoner Youngblood; sisters, Mildred Blackwelder, Jane Hager and Polly Neel; and brothers, Quay, Frank, Frel and Bob. He is survived by his three sons, William Lester Jr., Douglas and Quay and his wife, Cathy; grandchildren, Katherine, Brennon, Courtney, Carmen and Paul; his sister, Hannah Carmody; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 26, 2012 in the sanctuary of Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 9401 South Tryon St. Charlotte, NC 28273. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 15000 York Rd., Charlotte, NC 28278. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, March 25, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church or Steele Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 13225 South Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28278.
