Obituary of Smaragda Pitsikoulis

Smaragda M. Pitsikoulis, 92, of Denver, NC died March 26, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center. Originally from Viki, Chios, Greece, she was born on April 10, 1919, daughter of the late Mihalis and Paraskevi Pitsikoulis. She came to the United States to be close to her children and grandchildren that she loved dearly. Mrs. Pitsikoulis was a wonderful caregiver, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was dedicated to her church and loved gardening, crocheting and was a wonderful cook. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pitsikoulis was preceded in death by her husband, Panagiotis A. Pitsikoulis; a brother, Marinos Pitsikoulis; sisters, Kyriaki Kouimanis, Irene Evangelou and Lemonia Koutsounadis. She is survived by her son, Anastasios Pitsikoulis and his wife, Fay; daughter, Maria Fotinos and her husband, Nick, son, George Pitsikoulis, and son, Michael Pitsikoulis and his wife, Rhonda; nine grandchildren, Michael Fotinos and his wife, Politimi, Dr. Peter Fotinos, Pete S. Pitsikoulis, Pete G. Pitsikoulis, Michael G. Pitsikoulis, Smaragda Gonzalez and her husband Gabriel, Pete M. Pitsikoulis, Gloria and Christina Pitsikoulis; four great grandchildren, Nicholas, Kalliopi and Panagiotis Fotinos and Sophia Gonzalez; and sister, Maria Manolakis from Chios, Greece. Viewing will be Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 1:00 PM followed by the funeral service at 2:00PM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral with the Reverend Michael Varvarelis and the Reverend Philemon Patitsas officiating.
