Obituary of James Diamonduros

James Andrew Diamonduros Mr. James Diamonduros, 87, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on April 17th, 2012 at Sardis Oaks Nursing Home. He was born on January 30th, 1925, the son of the late Andrew and Alexandria Diamonduros. He graduated from Henderson High School in 1942 and moved to Charlotte. Mr. Diamonduros served in the US Army Corps of Engineers from 1950 - 1952. He was stationed in Munich, Germany and assigned to NATO. After a distinguished career in the military, he returned home to Charlotte. Following his military service, he attended Michigan State and graduated in 1957 with a degree in Business Administration and Accounting. He then began his 35 year career in the food service industry, managing restaurants in Chicago and Washington DC, returning in 1965 to Charlotte. He worked at many restaurants in Charlotte and retired from the industry in 1992. He took a break from his business in 1972 - 1978 to care for his mother until her death in June of 1978. Fondly called "Uncle Jimmy" by all who knew and loved him, he was a beloved brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Bill A. Diamonduros and wife, Aspa, of Rock Hill, two sisters, Mary D. Pappas and Helen D. Mandas of Charlotte. Also surviving are nephew, Peter A. Pappas and great nephew, Thomas Pappas, niece, Sissy Pappas, nephew Andrew Diamonduros and his wife, Terry and great nephew Will and great niece Elisabeth, niece Sandra Orozco and husband David; and extended family, Steve Emmanuel and wife Heidi, and their children, Jimmy Emmanuel and Charlie Emmanuel and their families. Steve has been a beloved friend and "brother" for over 45 years. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 20th at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral with Father Michael E. Varvarelis officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The Trisagon will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19th, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Pallbearers will be Chris S. Copsis, Andrew Diamonduros, Will Diamonduros, Charles and Jimmy Emmanuel, Cliff McGinnis, David Orozco and Peter A. Pappas. The family wishes to thank Uncle Jimmy's caregivers, Natascha, Renee and Michelle who took excellent care of him and treated him with love and respect; and also Carolinas HealthCare Center and Sardis Nursing Home for the outstanding care and love they showed Uncle Jimmy over the last few months. We would also like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte. Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 600 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203.
