Virginia Gadd

Obituary of Virginia Gadd

Virginia Hargett Gadd Mrs. Gadd, 86, passed away on April 19, 2012, after a brief illness. Virginia was born on March 17, 1926, to George and Ann Hargett. She was lifelong Charlottean and a graduate of Harding High School. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Craig Benton Gadd, her parents, and a brother, Jack Hargett. Virginia was a loving wife, mother and friend. She took great pride in being a homemaker, raising her children, and adoring her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family and church were always important to Virginia and Craig, who met as children, growing up in downtown Charlotte. They spent many years following their children in sports and school activities. They were life-long members of Calvary United Methodist Church and the Bill Cobb Sunday School Class. Virginia's Church family was as cherished as her natural family. She was very active in United Methodist Women, Circle meetings, Young in Heart, singing in the choir, and volunteering regularly in the Loaves and Fishes pantry at Calvary. In recent years she so enjoyed frequent outings with her many close friends. Virginia enjoyed collecting angels and always wore an angel pin. Heaven has certainly gained another angel. Virginia is survived by her sons, Jim Gadd (Elisabeth) of S.C.; David Gadd (Cindy) of TN; daughter, Jill Thor and daughter-in-law, Cindy Gadd, both of Charlotte. Grandchildren include Kristen Williams (Matthew) and Jonathan Gadd (Krista) of GA; Cameron Gadd (Jill) of Charlotte; Jordan Gadd and Eli Gadd of CA; Ryan Thor and Austin Thor of Charlotte; Tyler and Kyle Newberry of SC. Great-grandchildren Payton, Claire, Harrison, Ivy and Connor Gadd, and Brinson Williams, brought much joy to her. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 22, 2012, from 3:00 to 5:00pm at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 23, 11:00am, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 512 West Blvd. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 512 West Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203, or Loaves & Fishes, P. O. Box 11234, Charlotte, NC 28220.
