Obituary of Sara Erexson

Sara Avant Erexson Sara Avant Erexson, 90, left this world quietly and gently on April 24, 2012 following a brief illness. A native of Anderson, SC, she was born January 15, 1922, daughter of the late Hugh and Josephine Campbell Avant. Sara graduated from Columbia College and received a degree in Medical Technology from Duke University. She worked for a time as an assistant to the late Dr. Walt Summerville, the former coroner for Mecklenburg County. Sara served for over thirty years as a medical technologist and the Supervisor of the Hematology Lab at Mercy Hospital. She was a long time member of Avondale Presbyterian Church and a volunteer as a guardian ad litem. Sara was a vibrant spirit who loved to entertain and believed there was always time for a party. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Erexson was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Frederick Erexson and a brother, W.D. Avant. She is survived by her son, Rick Erexson and his wife, Lee of Gastonia, NC; grandson, Paul Geoffrey Erexson and granddaughter, Kristen McCauley; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hilda Ward of Camden, NC. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Avondale Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. John Earl officiating.
