Obituary of Woodrow Blackman

Woodrow W. Blackman Mr. Blackman, 93, of Charlotte, died on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital. He was born on August 6, 1918 in Horry County, SC son of the late Bartow Reynolds Blackman and Nora Rogers Blackman. Mr. Blackman loved to plant, grow and share flowers, he loved his church, Westview Baptist Church, where he was a member for over 60 years and he loved his family. He retired from Ford Motor Company after over 30 years of service. In addition to his parents, Mr. Blackman was preceded in death by his wife of 68+ years, Hazel Watts Blackman; his son, Woodrow Wilson Blackman, Jr.; and son-in-law, Willie E. Heath, Jr.; and a brother, J.B. Blackman. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Blackman Heath; granddaughter, Mary Jean Young and her husband, Jack; grandson, Billy Heath and his wife, Kassie; great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian Helms, Kaitlyn, Will and Kara Beth Heath; great-great-granddaughter, Taryn Helms; brothers and sisters-in-law, Nellie and Landis Bryant, Marvin and Ruth Watts and Owen Watts; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Friday, May 4, 2012 at 1:30 PM in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 with Reverend Jimmy Britt, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
