Obituary of Edwin Walters

Edwin M. Walters Mr. Walters, 72, of York, SC died at his residence. He was born in Monroe, NC on July 17, 1939, son of the late Arthur and Christine Rorie Walters. Mr. Walters was an avid golfer getting 3 hole in ones during his lifetime, one of them during a Masonic lodge tournament. During his career as a plastics fabricator, he invented the hi-cone die crutch air cushion. Mr. Walters invention corrected a manufacturing defect in the 203 punching die. He designed, machined and installed his invention, allowing the use of roll stock for the 203 punching die. It increased production 25 percent, eliminated needless waste and saved the company, Owens Illinois, hundreds of thousands of dollars. In addition to his parents, Mr. Walters was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Jack, Bob and Mose and one sister, Monie Holmes. He is survived by his daughters, Kim Edens and her husband, Russ, Jett Buskirk and her husband, Rich and Wyndi Walters; grandchildren, Mallory Walters, Kayla Edens, Jessy Walters and Rayce Buskirk; great-grandchild, Kyndal Williams; sisters, Dean Skipper and her husband, Skip and Judy Udick and her husband, Jim; and nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM in Walters Family Cemetery, Monroe, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.
