Obituary of Mildred Speir

Mildred Carmichael Speir Mrs. Speir, 96, passed away on May 5, 2012 at Sharon Towers in Charlotte, NC. Mildred was born on May 25, 1915, to the late Henry Hoyt Carmichael and Nettie Wilkinson Carmichael. A life-long resident of Charlotte, she graduated from Central High School, Class of 1933. Her husband of 42 years, Nathaniel Gibson Speir, Sr., preceded her in death in 1983. Mildred joined the First Presbyterian Church in 1941 and remained an active member for over 60 years. She especially enjoyed her women's circle and the Chapel Bible class. She was active in the community as a member of the Junior League of Charlotte. Mildred will be remembered for her sense of humor and easy laughter. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her three children, Nat Speir, Jr. and wife, Trish, of Charlotte; son, Robert Speir and wife, Rebecca, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; and daughter, Millie Kabrick and husband, Randy, of Chapel Hill, NC; six grandchildren: Rob Speir and wife, Maddie; Ben Speir and wife, Anna; Tom Speir and wife, Wynne, Randolph Kabrick, Rawley Kabrick, and Erin Kabrick; and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their appreciation to Sharon Towers for their attentive care over the years. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Sharon Towers, 5100 Sharon Rd. Charlotte, NC 28210. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Health Care Unit at Sharon Towers or Hospice & Palliative Care-Charlotte Region, 1420 East 7th Street Charlotte, NC 28204.
