Obituary of Margaret Alston

Margaret Leafe Alston ?Peggy? Mrs. Alston, 81, of Charlotte, NC passed away on May 10, 2012. Peggy was born in Badin, NC in 1930 to the late, Harry S. Leafe and Ruth Dodge Leafe. She spent her early days on the family farm in New London, NC and in 1942 moved back to Badin. In 1951 Peggy graduated from UNC-Greensboro and was promptly hired as a school teacher, a profession she held for over 40 years. As a special education teacher for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, she taught at Harding and West Charlotte High Schools, where she touched the lives of thousands of her students. She met her husband Ray Alston in Badin, NC as a fellow teacher and they were married in 1954. For over 50 years they had a commitment to each other, family, their church and their community. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Ray and a brother Sidney Leafe. She is survived by her sons, John Alston and his wife, Mary of Bozeman, MT and Jim Alston and his wife, Connie of Harrisburg, NC; grandson Killian Alston of Seaside, CA; great-grandson Kylen Alston of San Diego, CA; and many nieces and nephews. The family deeply thanks the employees of Emeritus at South Park and dear family friend, Rachel Schul. A memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 18, 2012 at St. Johns Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
