Obituary of Susan Breines

Susan Barbara Breines Susan Barbara Breines, age 79, of Charlotte, NC died on May 16, 2012. Beloved daughter of the late Oscar Birnbaum and Irene Wellington Birnbaum. We are saddened to say good-bye to Susan, dearest mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed for her feisty spirit, sharp wit, and sparkling smile. Susan was a life-long student of classical writings and music, always striving to fulfill her thirst for knowledge, driven by her ever-present curiosity. After spending years moving around the country, Ms. Breines made Charlotte her home 25 years ago. When she retired, she finally had the time to indulge in her love of gardening, taking classes to challenge her mind and began exercising to strengthen her body. She had a wide and ever-growing circle of friends with whom she shared her love of life. Susan is survived by her children Stephen Epstein and his wife, Chris, Elizabeth Epstein Mond and her husband, Jered, and Michael Epstein and his wife, Karen. She is also survived by five grandchildren; and her beloved brother, Martin Birnbaum and his wife, Roz Greenspon. In addition, she leaves behind her former husbands, Jules Epstein, of Boca Raton, FL and Marc Breines of Charlotte, NC. A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Temple Beth El, 5101 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. Interment private. A shiva reception will follow immediately after the service in the synagogue.
