Obituary of James Boyd

Mr. Boyd died suddenly, June 7, 2012 at age 82, following a brief illness. Born June 1, 1930, in Davidson County, NC, the son of James Edward Boyd and Zula Walser Boyd, Jim grew up in York, SC. A graduate of Clemson University in 1953 with a degree in Industrial Arts and Masters from Appalachian State, Jim received his ROTC commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army and served with the 2nd Armored Calvary in Europe and Fort Meade, Maryland for 8 years. Jim was a career educator, teaching middle school in Hartsville, SC and retiring from the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System in 1983. Survived by loving wife of 61 years, Betty Wolfe Boyd; brother, William L. Boyd; children, James Howard Boyd, Jr. and wife, Jane, Richard Franklin Boyd and wife, Sherry, Melissa Ann Ruprecht and husband, Bob, and Edward Walter Boyd and wife, Barbara; grandsons Jason, David, Eliot, Christopher, J.T, Steven Boyd and Brendan Boyd Nolan; granddaughters, Amy and Maggie Boyd along with three great grandchildren, Benjamin, Samantha and Ava Grace Boyd. Mr. Boyd was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his time with family, Jim enjoyed bee keeping, gardening, golf, ushering at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. He was an expert craftsman. Jim was a Member of Avondale Presbyterian Church and an active member of the Vanguard Sunday School Class. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 11, 2012, at Avondale Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. John B. Earl officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the McLean Fellowship Hall. Interment will be private.
