Obituary of Ethel Poston

Ethel Jerman Poston Mrs. Ethel Poston died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the age of 82 after a long illness, at Carriage Club Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC. Ethel was born in Peachland, NC, on March 30, 1930, the middle of three daughters of the late Velma Thomas Jerman. She grew up in the Fourth Ward section of uptown Charlotte, graduating from Harding High School in the class of 1948. In 1950 she met the love of her life, Joseph F. Poston, Jr., of Charlotte, and the two were married in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1953. Ethel and Joe moved back to Charlotte in 1955 and lived there the rest of their lives. In addition to her beloved husband, Joe, of 59 years, she leaves two children: J. Thomas Poston and Judith Poston Crovi, both of Charlotte, North Carolina, son-in-law Michael Crovi, and grandchildren Joseph Michael and Philip Jonathan Crovi of Charlotte. Also surviving are her sisters Willie Mae Lee of Belton, South Carolina and Virginia Murphy and niece Barbara Beaty, both of Sarasota, Florida. Ethel was a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church where she served as the secretary of four senior ministers: Dr. C.C. Herbert, Dr. Eugene Few, Dr. Wilson O. Weldon and Dr. J. Clay Madison. Ethel left her secretarial position at the church in 1964 to become a full time wife, mother and homemaker, but remained active in Myers Park Church through the Wesley Sunday School class and the Women?s Circle. The family will be forever grateful for the loving care and support provided by her doctors, and the nurses and staff at the Carriage Club of Charlotte. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, July 7, 2012, in the Francis Chapel at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Rd, Charlotte, NC, 28207. The family will receive friends following the service in Jubilee Hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Charlotte Chapter 205, Regency Executive Park Drive, Ste 102 Charlotte, NC 28217 or to Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207 (designate for ?Shelter & Hope?).
