Obituary of Mary McCall Williams

Mrs. Williams, 74, of Charlotte, NC died at her residence on Saturday, July 28, 2012 after an extended illness. Mary was very active in her community and in her daughter?s school, serving as grade mother and PTA president. Mrs. Williams and her husband, Sam were involved in the community, serving police and fire fighters on the westside. They would take food, coffee and cold drinks out to accidents and fires scenes. They also feed the firemen and policemen at Christmas. Mary started a neighborhood care group to help out friends and neighbors during times of illness, tragedy or times of joy. She was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed baking, canning and making her homemade spaghetti sauce, which her grandson, Barry loved to help her make. Mrs. Williams had her own catering business and was a professional baker and cake decorator. An active member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Williams sang in the chancel choir for a number of years. She also helped found the Ladies Auxiliary at the Wilkinson Blvd. VFD and served with the American Legion Post 262. Mary was a member of the Eastern Star Steele Creek Chapter 339, she also served as Mother Advisor to the Rainbow Girls Steele Creek Chapter 75 and helped shape and enrich the lives of young women ages 13 to 20. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Sam Williams; daughter, Lillian Williams-Nixon and her grandson, Barry Nixon all of Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, from 2:30 until the service hour at 4:00 PM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Paw Creek Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, PO Box 64 Paw Creek, NC or the Paw Creek Center for the Arts, PO Box 64 Paw Creek, NC.
