Obituary of Meredith Brown

Meredith McGinnis Brown Mrs. Brown, 88, of Charlotte, NC died August 2, 2012 at the Stewart Health Center. She was born July 18, 1924 in Shelby, NC daughter of the late James and Mildred Hamrick McGinnis. Meredith was employed as an administrator with the Duke Endowment until her retirement. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed playing the piano. She was a true southern lady and enjoyed cooking and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her first husband, Reid Hogan in 1968 and her second husband Woodrow Brown in 2001. Surviving are her daughters, Sue B. Poole and husband, Harry of Simpsonville, SC, and Deborah B. Harper and husband, Andrew of Greenville, SC and Janice Horton of North Wilkesboro, NC; son, Garrett Hogan and wife, Amy of Indian Trail, NC; daughter-in-law, Peggy Brown of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Kim Hartness and husband, Blanton, Jeff Poole and wife, Megan, Ben Rickman and wife, Crystal and Laurie, Elizabeth, Stephen and Jonathan Horton and Connor and Eric Hogan; great-grandchildren, Hunter Hartness, Tyler, Hunter and Kyle Rickman, Jackson Poole and Tavian and Javon Smith. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 5, 2012 in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the memorial service. Interment will be private in Sharon Memorial Park.
