Obituary of Richard Coble Sullivan

Richard Lyles Coble Sullivan Mr. Sullivan, 71, died August 13, 2012 in Durham, NC. He was born August 25, 1940 in Chester, SC son of the late Sarah Glenn Sullivan and John Lee Sullivan of Charleston, WV. He graduated from the Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg PA and from the University of South Carolina where he received a BA. He also received a Law Degree from The University of South Carolina. Mr. Sullivan was a member of the South Carolina Bar, a SC Bar Life Fellow and a Partner in the Columbia law firms Glenn, Porter and Sullivan and The McNair Law Firm where he specialized in municipal securities. Mr. Sullivan was a former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives and Chairman of The Richland County Democratic Party. He was elected as a delegate to the 1968 Democratic National Convention. He was a former member of Forest Lake Club and a member and long-time senior usher at Trinity Cathedral Episcopal Church. Mr. Sullivan was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Columbia Museum of Art. He also served as a volunteer umpire for the Columbia Little League. He loved golfing, travel and spending time with his grandchildren Mr. Sullivan is survived by a son, Richard Lyles Sullivan and his wife, Caroline Finklea Sullivan of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Marion Stewart Sullivan and her husband, James Hill Cotter, daughter, Rosanne Riley Glenn Sullivan of Columbia; grandchildren, John Lee Sullivan and Elizabeth Finklea Sullivan, Coles Baldwin Cotter and Julia Lyles Fairbanks Cotter; sister, Sarah Glenn Sullivan and her husband Ricklen Brown of Charleston WV. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2012 in the Evergreen Cemetery in Chester, SC. Evergreen Cemetary is located at Evergreen Drive, (Downtown Chester), Chester, SC 29706. There will be a reception following the service at Anna?s Arbor, 129 Gadsden Street, Chester, SC.
