Obituary of Ruth Lipford

Ruth Wilson Lipford, 90, of Charlotte, died August 19, 2012 at her home. Ruth was born on February 17, 1922, in Leslie, GA, the third of four children to the late Reid and Cara Wilson. She graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon, GA and taught kindergarten for many years, first in Atlanta and then in Charlotte at Covenant Presbyterian Church. She devoted her life to her family and friends and touched many with her kindness and generosity. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ed Lipford, and is survived by her husband, Bill Loftin, and his family; daughter, Birch Carlson, of Pasadena, CA; son, Ned Lipford, of Charlotte; foreign exchange son, Johan Runius, of Täby, Sweden and his family; grandchildren, Kate Lipford, of Boston, MA and Andrew Lipford, of Charlotte; and sister, Cliff Dunlop, of Atlantic Beach, FL and her family. A service celebrating her life will be held at Avondale Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, PO Box 4777, NY NY 10163-4777.
