Obituary of Margaret Kambas

Ms. Kambas, 89, of Charlotte died Saturday, September 1, 2012, at CMC Pineville. She was born in Syracuse, NY, January 7, 1923, a daughter of the late James and Bessie Pananicles Kambas. Margaret was a graduate of Syracuse City Normal School and Oswego State Teacher?s College. She received her masters degree from Syracuse University in Elementary Education and taught for thirty three years with twenty seven of those years at Moses DeWitt Elementary School in DeWitt, NY. Ms. Kambas was a member of the Daughters of Penelope of which she served as president of the Syracuse and Charlotte chapters and as the district governor of the Empire district. She also served as president of the Charlotte chapter of the Philoptochos Society, a Greek Orthodox philanthropic and charitable organization for women. Margaret was a member of the American Association of University Women group. Survivors include her sisters, Marie Tomasides and husband, Chris of Houston, TX and Harriet Ganatsiou and husband, Thomas of Charlotte, NC. Also many nieces, nephews and three godchildren survive, Ms. Kambas Funeral service for Ms. Kambas will be held 11:00AM, Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Interment will be in Oakwood-Morningside Cemetery in Syracuse, NY on Friday, September 7, 2012, at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Cathedral Foundation at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte NC 28203 or St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Rd, Syracuse, NY 13224.
