Obituary of Regina Parsons

Regina Sherrilyn O?Neill Parsons, 64, passed away peacefully from Multiple Myeloma surrounded by her loving family, on September 10, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital?s Harris Hospice Unit in Charlotte, NC. Born on August 1, 1948 in Charlotte, NC, Gina was the daughter of the late Joseph G. O?Neill, Sr. and the late Martha O?Neill Johnson. Gina grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Our Lady of Mercy High School in 1966 and Sacred Heart Junior College in 1968 with an Associate of Science degree. She also took many classes at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte. She lived in Washington, DC from 1971-1978 while employed at the Federal National Mortgage Association. After returning to Charlotte, she worked for Charles Schwab. From the year 2000 until her death, she was employed with the Diocese of Charlotte in their Finance Department. Gina?s Catholic faith became the heart of her life. As a member of the Cathedral of St. Patrick in Charlotte, she attended Mass daily. She served as one of the coordinators for Perpetual Adoration at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. She was a member of the Divine Mercy Cenacles prayer group at St. Matthew?s Catholic Church. She was devoted to proclaiming the truth of the Real Presence of Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist and the Divine Mercy message and devotion. At the Cathedral of St. Patrick, she served on the Altar Guild and Respect Life committee. She was also dedicated to praying at the abortion clinics on many Saturdays. Gina enjoyed gardening and loved being outdoors in God?s nature of birds, cats and dogs, and all the surrounding beauty. Gina loved and felt blessed to have such a wonderful family, friends, co-workers at the Diocese, as well as her neighbors. She cherished time with each of them. Gina is survived by her siblings: Joseph G. O?Neill, Jr. (Jan), Patricia O?Neill, Martha O. Ausman (Jim), Mary ?Booty? O. Moran (Bob), and Michael J. O?Neill, her step-brother John Bracken ?Jay? Johnson (Louise), all of Charlotte, and many nieces and nephews. In addition, Gina is survived by her former husband, David T. Parsons of Rock Hill, SC. She is preceded in death by her step-father, J. Bracken Johnson. The family expresses its heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Justin Favaro and the medical staff at Oncology Specialists of Charlotte, as well as the staff at the Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Hospital of Charlotte. A Rosary and Visitation will be held at 6:30 PM on Friday, September 14, at The Cathedral of St. Patrick, 1621 Dilworth Road East. The family will receive guests immediately following until 8:30 PM in the Cathedral?s Family Life Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 15, at the Cathedral of St. Patrick with burial immediately following at Sharon Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cathedral of St. Patrick.
