Obituary of Charles Hunter

Mr. Hunter, age 77, of Charlotte NC died peacefully on Wednesday October 10, 2012. Chick was born in Asheville, NC on October 20, 1934 to Charles Richard and Hazel Wilkins Hunter. He attended The Citadel where he was a member of the golf team, the freshman football and basketball teams and graduated with a degree in engineering in 1956. Chick married his Jr. High School sweetheart, Elisabeth Jones, (Liz) the summer after graduation. He then served three years in the Army stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso Texas as a lieutenant. After his military service he moved back to North Carolina and co-founded Southern Irrigation Co., which installed golf course irrigation systems. In 1968 he joined RL Carlson Co. beginning at 38-year sales career. Chick was a long time member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church and Myers Park County Club where he served as a board member. He was a pretty good golfer, winning two club championships, qualified for the US Amateur and two US Senior Amateurs and was a member of two select teams that represented the Carolinas against Virginia in Ryder Cup style matches. He loved time with his family and his grandchildren, especially his wife of 54 years who preceded him in death. His unique style and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
