Obituary of Alton Harris

Alton Foster Harris, 82, formerly of Charlotte, NC died Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC. Mr. Harris was born August 27, 1930, in North Wilkesboro, NC, a son of the late Velta and Alma Foster Harris. Alton was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired landscaper and heavy equipment operator. Mr. Harris was a member of University Hills Baptist Church and sang in the St. James Male Chorus. Alton loved his family and will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, Alton was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2007. Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Gulledge and husband, Rodney; son, Douglas Harris and wife, Susan; daughter, Jeanne Gray; daughter, Jill Smith and Doug and daughter, Patti Norris and husband, Kenny; brother, Cleon Harris and wife, Peggy; sister, Inez Crowell and husband, Jesse and Janice Ellington and husband, Jack; Eleven Grandchildren and Eleven Great Grandchildren. Funeral service for Mr. Harris will be held 3:00 PM Friday, December 7, 2012 in the Chapel of Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Tucker Hospice House, 5003 Hospice LN, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
