Obituary of Arthur Boerke

Arthur Mark Boerke Mr. Boerke passed away on February 19, 2013 at CMC in Charlotte, NC. Art was born on September 3, 1962, in Long Island, NY. He attended The University of South Carolina where he pioneered college radio as the station manager of the award-winning, WUSC-FM. Art was best known in Columbia as the owner of Rockafella?s, a popular live music venue, described by Spin Magazine as the ?CBGB?s of the South? operating the club for over ten years. Afterward, Art received his Masters in History at USC and became an adjunct professor of history in NC at High Point University, UNCC, Wingate, Johnson C. Smith and Pfeiffer. Art is survived by his dear friends, Damon Plumides, Rhiannon Hendron, and their son Michael who Art loved dearly; his brother, Jack Boerke of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Jack?s children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Saturday evening, February 23, 2013, at Hankins and Whittington and a celebration of Art?s life will be held at Jake?s at 2112 Devine St., Columbia, SC(the old Rockafella?s location) from 2:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday February 24, 2013, ? all are welcome.
