I had the pleasure of working with Phil over the years. He was always serious about his work, but always approached it in a fun way. I am fortunate for having known Phil, and I'm a better person for it. Prayers to the family.

I first met Phil in a conference room in Philadelphia in 1998. On the whiteboard, Phil had written the names of the bank's lockbox sites, misspelling his host city as "Philidelphia". I thought to myself "who is this guy?" It turned out that he would be my biggest advocate when it came to my professional life and a supportive counselor when it came to my personal life.
Over the next dozen years or so, Phil would return to Philadelphia many times and I will always treasure my memories of the time that I was able to spend with him both in and out of the office.
When it came to work, Phil would question the way that things were done and constantly look for ways to make things better. On those occasions when we disagreed, he always considered my points and I was happy to defer to him and support him in his decisions. He was a leader. He was a motivator. He was a team builder.
But most of all, he was a fun loving and compassionate soul, who enriched our lives.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of sorrow. I hope these few words help~~Ray--Your Dad will always be with you.

As someone was was managed by Phil for many years, I looked foward to his visits to Philadelphia. Phil had two goals in mind; to ensure that company business was completed properly, and to spend as much personal time with associates as possible. Phil's favorite term "Sideways in the Road" affectionately suggested things were done differently in Philly as compared to Charlotte. He never quite understood why the sprinkles on ice cream were referred to Jimmies up north. His on-going joke was that he would remember us at review time because we never included Phil during our Christmas Pollyanna. During 1 on 1 business trips or to company events, I would suggest to Phil that I could not concentrate on driving if he continued to talk business issues. The conversation would quickly switch to family; which he loved so much.
Phil's good nature and Life of the Party personality will be greatly missed.

I worked with Phil at First Union and then Wachovia. I have many memories of Phil over the years. I never forget his wipeout at first base during our team softball game, his wreck in the rental car, the lunches at the Lions Club, and on and on. He made everyone laugh. He was one of a kind. Everyone will miss Phil. He made this earth a better place.

What can I say, Phil was one of the most wonderful neighbors that my daddy could have ever hoped for. He was there time and again to help him and then after I lost my father Phil was there to help me. He was more than a neighbor, he was a friend and will truly be missed by all.

I always kidded Phil that he was like the Grandfather I never got to know, but in reality he was like the brother I never had. I can honestly say I laughed more about things with Phil then anyone else in my life, and we usually were laughing at each other. Mever a dull or quiet moment with Phil. Words can't express the void Phil leaves behind.
