Frank Rupar

Obituary of Frank Anthony Rupar

Frank Anthony Rupar, 100, of Charlotte, passed away April 23, 2024. Born August 11, 1923, in Fitzhenry, PA, he was the son of the late Anton and Frances Rupar, the youngest of four boys and the first in his family to attend college.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife of Madelyn Lorraine Rupar, who passed in July of 2022.

Frank attended Clarion State College in Pennsylvania for a year, then entered the US Army where he served for three years (1943-1945), and saw action in the Battle of Saipan. After the war, he got his bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of Pittsburgh, and married Madelyn in 1948.

In the early 1950s, he had a career change and trained to be an Engineer for Western Electric, part of AT&T. He worked as an Engineer for AT&T starting in 1955, first locating in Oak Park, IL, then moving to Timonium, MD, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

He and Madelyn eventually retired to Fayetteville (at Penn National) and then to Menno Haven in Chambersburg, PA. In both places, they were active at Corpus Christi Parish, and Frank worked tirelessly for St. Vincent DePaul Society until he was 93.

Frank loved being active, participating (in chronological order) in running, tennis, then golf, playing the latter into his 90s. For many of those years, he and Madelyn were also avid Square Dancers, often traveling to national events. He was also heavily involved with Boy Scouts, serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 497 for 10 years at St. Joseph’s Church in Cockeysville, MD. He enjoyed camping and the outdoors.

Their final years were spent in loving care at the Waltonwood Providence Memory Care facility in Charlotte, NC. He is survived by his children: Ken and his wife Karin, Dave (Marguerite), Mark (Joan) and Mike (Irma), plus 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and many more loving family and friends.
