Rebecca Vandergriff

Obituary of Rebecca Hellen Vandergriff

Rebecca Hellen Gannaway Vandergriff ("Becky"), 77, of Charlotte, North Carolina, went to Heaven to rest in the arms of Jesus on Friday, January 26, 2024. Born September 12, 1946, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Hellen Millard and Lovell Gannaway. After graduating from East Ridge High School and the University of Chattanooga, Becky married her high school sweetheart, who also grew up with her at South Seminole Baptist Church in East Ridge.

Becky is survived by her loving husband of over 56 years, Douglas Vandergriff (son of Edwinna Alford and James ("Jack") Vandergriff); their children, Jennifer Copolillo (Marcus) & Daniel Vandergriff (Brandy); her grandchildren, Madeline (21) & Ella (19) Vandergriff; her brother, Timothy Gannaway; her brother-in-law, Gregory Vandergriff (Charlotte); as well as many more close family members and friends.

Becky faithfully followed Jesus and fiercely loved her family throughout her whole life. She spent her days teaching and serving others – teaching professionally during the early years of marriage; after her children were born, volunteering through her church and as a long-time member of the Charity League of Charlotte. Beloved for her warm smile and kind spirit, Becky blessed others with her creativity and craftiness. She will be remembered for making wonderfully decorated birthday and wedding cakes, in addition to all manner of sewing and needlework. Becky enjoyed time with her family, reading, collecting and displaying various treasures, and studying Scripture. She truly marveled at God's beauty revealed all around her - from awe inspiring grandeur to the tiniest creations; she was an amazing reflection of that beauty - both inside and out - to all who knew her.

The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 on Thursday, February 1st at Carmel Baptist Church in Matthews, which will be immediately followed by a celebration of Becky's life at 2:00.
