Obituary of Mary Barbre Parlier

Mary Barbre Parlier (“Kay”), 70, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully January 6, 2024. Born November 27, 1953, in Charlotte, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Margaret Barbre. Kay grew up in Charlotte, graduating from Myers Park High School. After graduation, she worked for a bank and in business before finding her true passion for teaching and children. After spending time as a stay-at-home mom, she returned to the classroom as a teacher’s assistant for over twenty years before retiring, with her entire career spent at Huntingtowne Farms Elementary School. Kay also was heavily involved at Dilworth United Methodist Church, volunteering in a variety of roles including children’s Sunday School coordinator. She also volunteered with many other groups, including Girl Scouts and JDRF. Aside from teaching and volunteering, she loved spending time at the beach, watching her favorite Carolina Tarheels play basketball, reading, and spoiling her only grandson as much as possible. Kay is survived by her daughters Jenny Parlier and Janice Fiola (Shawn); her grandson Braxton Fiola; her brothers Danny Barbre and Paul Barbre (Megan); her close cousin who was like a sister Julie Kinder (Hal); her father-in-law Bill Parlier; her sister-in-law Debbie Hill (Doug) and brother-in-law Bill Parlier (Theresa); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister-in-law Shari Barbre and mother-in-law Nancy Parlier. Kay’s daughters would like to thank everyone at Mecklenburg County Health & Rehab for their compassion, dedication, hard work, and love of our mother. She felt very much at home and enjoyed spending her final few years under your care. We also thank VIA Health Partners for their hospice care and compassion during Kay’s final days.
