Obituary of Dorothy Wood Culpepper

Dorothy Wood Culpepper passed away peacefully September 10, 2023 at her home surrounded by family. She was born in Oak Park, IL in 1927 to Charles J. and Juanita Marie Wood. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Clifford (Cliff) Culpepper, her parents, sisters Betty, Mildred, Carol, Marian, Nita, brothers Jim and Glenn, granddaughter Sarah, and grandson Loren. Dottie graduated from Glenbard High School in Glen Ellyn, IL in 1945 and from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing (now Rush University System for Health, Chicago, IL). Dottie married Cliff, the love of her life, in 1949 and celebrated 69 years together. The Lord blessed them with three sons, Greg, Allen and Philip, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Dottie worked as a Registered Nurse, maintaining her nursing license for 48 years. She enjoyed music and the arts and was on the Board of Directors for Community Concerts Glenn Ellyn, Board of Directors of the Junior Women’s Club Glenn Ellyn, member of Guild of Charlotte Artists and The Light Factory, volunteered with the Red Cross, taught Girl Scout First Aid, and member of Lake Norman Yacht Club. She retired from Presbyterian Orthopedic Hospital of Charlotte after eight years as Director Patient and Family Services. Above all, she cherished being a member of St. Stephen UMC and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. A service to celebrate Dottie’s life will be held at her church at a future date. The family would like to thank Dr. Nasfat J. Shehadeh and the staff of Oncology Specialists of Charlotte, as well as Melinda, Libba, Shelby and the wonderful care givers of Via Health Partners (Hospice Care) of Charlotte. Memorial donations may be given to St. Stephen UMC Pastor Relief Fund, 6800 Sardis Road Charlotte, NC 28270.
