There are so many feelings I have for my Aunt Lou but the one that is closest to my heart is the fact that she was much more like a mom to me than an aunt. She helped raise me when my mom went back to work, and even though I was an only child, I feel like I grew up with a brother and sister in Ray and Donna even though they were cousins on the family tree. I have so many fond memories of trips that our families took together and times spent at the Douglas house. I think I may have eaten dinner there as many nights in the week as I did at home. Aunt Lou always had my back even if it was to lend support to my mom whenever she felt the need to defend me. And she and my mom were like peas in a pod - their bonds as sisters and as friends was unshakable. My aunt and uncle were always there for my mom and I, especially after the loss of my father and that support was immeasurable. My Aunt Lou had a great wit about her but she was also one of the most loving people I know. She always treated me as one of her own children for which I will be eternally grateful. What blessings were bestowed on me to know such love and devotion. She is now reunited with Uncle Donald, my Mom and Dad and they are probably speeding down the road in their heavenly car to some beach somewhere and laughing the whole way. Miss you Aunt Lou!
