I learned of Palmer's passing just today and am deeply saddened. He was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity at UNC Charlotte and I was proud to call him "brother" from the first time I met him in 1970 until I last saw him in 2019 at a routine alumni luncheon. To his family, I will just say, your Palmer was a kind, generous and loving man, quiet in his voice and manner but loud in his spirit and love. If I had to fill the world with one person whom I have met in my life, I couldn't choose a better one than Palmer. He elevated us all by living a life of "human being."

I loved Palmer. As did my parents, Jean and Robert Spratt.
The love and respect was mutual.
We loved his mother Ruth, a deep treasure. I knew both "Molly" dogs.
One of my cherished memories is a Christmas night dinner with Palmer, Ruth, a neighbor or theirs,
my husband Charlie and me. Palmer had a fire roaring. This was one of those memorable Christmas dinners,
"as of a time past."
Palmer was a servant, in all things, "As unto the Lord."
The desire of his heart, and of Ruth's, is that you family members "Consider Jesus." You decision effects your future life after physical death. Jesus is our hope, Jesus IS alive, Jesus conquered death. After death, "it" is not "nothing." Chose Jesus and chose life eternal. Jesus loves you.

Palmer was a lovely man, in every good sense of that phrase. He loved beauty, music, movement, and especially people. He loved creation and creatures, much like St. Francis. He cared for God's people, all of them and especially those who could not return the favor. The world was a better place because of Palmer, and it can be a better place if we emulate him. I will treasure the memories.

Palmer was one of my oldest and best friends. We met when we both worked at a sporting goods store. He became my assistant manager when I was named manager. He was a good retailer. Palmer met with me and two other good friends every week for dinner for 20 years or so. He will be missed.

RIP sweet Palmer. I was blessed to have such an amazing brother-in-law. I will always cherish our trips to pickup collard greens and roasted, smothered onion cheese burgers and quiet political talks by the fireplace. You brightened the lives of many individuals with your kind heart and soothed souls with your amazing voice. Sing with the angels and fly free. I love you.
