Obituary of Betty Marshall

Betty Spong Marshall, age 92, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away Monday, September 27, 2021. Ms. Marshall was born Wednesday, February 6, 1929, in Charlotte, North Carolina, she was raised by her late father, John Shelby Spong and late mother, Doolie Griffith. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Ms. Spong spent many years following her passion as a pre-school teacher. She was the brightest light in the room both mentally and spiritually. No matter what type of day you were having, she would always put a smile on your face with her kind words and beautiful smile. Ms. Betty was a very loving person and a huge lover for cats. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard Marshall, Jr.; daughter, Dana Marshall Blackson and her brothers: Will and John Spong. She is survived by her granddaughter, Shawna Furr, the Spong family and many more loving family and friends. A special "Thank You" is extended to the staff of Summit Place of South Park for their care and compassion. The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. with a service to be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2021, at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service.
