Obituary of Emma Lou McCarley

Emma Lou McCarley, 94, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021. Born August 22, 1926, on a farm in the Steele Creek area of southern Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Beulah Neely and the youngest of six children. She recalls her childhood during the depression as a happy one. As she put it, "We always had enough to eat, unlike some of my friends at school". As a teenager, she enjoyed listening to her grandfather's fiddle playing and going to dances in the area. Later in life, her chief delighters were fishing, country music, exercise class at the YMCA, and getting together with her family and friends.

Emma is survived by her loving children: Larry Wayne McCarley and his wife, Maria Teresa, and Linda Kay McCarley; grandchildren: Ryan Timothy McGarvey, John Paul McCarley and Kara Ashley McCarley; sisters-in-law: Etta Louise McCarley and Nancy James; and many more cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Lewie Allen McCarley; and her siblings: Pauline, Robert, James, Lester and Llamar.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Boulevard Charlotte, NC. A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM Friday, April 23, 2021 at Charlotte Memorial Gardens, 7632 Hood Road Charlotte, NC.
