Our prayers and thoughts go out to comfort you and the family in Jerry's passing. We were so sorry to hear of his illness and passing at such a young age. We remember the good times we had with you and Jerry, along with the Trautweins, at Misty Mountain and Jerry's delicious meals he prepared for us.
We wish you peace and comfort in the coming months. It is always hard to lose a loved one, especially losing someone as special as Jerry.
Warm regards,
Sherry and Tony Barretta

We first met Jerry eight years ago when we purchased our cottage in Misty Mountain. It was early in the morning during a cold winter day. He was all bundled up walking his two dogs on Gorge View Drive and greeted us as he would a long time friend, walked along our side, and accepted us as he did everything that he encountered in life. He was always a welcoming and uplifting sight, gracious in his natural, centered, and unassuming way. We will always miss him and see him in our mind's eyes, walking beside us and sharing the rarefied mountain air.

In our hearts and minds, he will forever be walking Sedgefield Road with the pups... I was thinking about it last night & Jen said the exact same thing this morning.

Oh Lordy... I remember many a shared meal, cooked always by Jerry in their kitchen in Jersey Village. He was always entertaining everyone with what I remember mostly cajun cuisine and was always the life of the party. He was the first coach I ever saw cowboy boots on the soccer field... gosh we laugh when we think of Jerry stories. The games he got kicked out of defending our kids... He always had a good attitude.. I wish we would have come to visit in last few years.. We have so much love in ours hearts for the Meyer family, Prayers and love for all of y’all from The Boeker’s.

Mr. Meyer was such a great teacher and person all around. I remember him being so laid back and easy to talk to and really enjoyed being in his class those many years ago. I know he will be missed. Sending my deepest condolences to the family.

You can’t find better people than Jerry and Sandra Meyer. I’ll never forget the wonderful meals he prepared to feed food pantry volunteers and church staff at FaithBridge UMC and Casting Bread Food Pantry. Jerry was just a delight to be around. So gracious and loving and always ready to serve and care for others. The world is a better place for having Jerry in it and his memory and legacy will live on. Prayers of comfort and peace for all the grieving.

Mr. Meyer taught my 12th grade English class. We were a pretty typical group of kids: half-listening, more interested in socializing than in Shakespeare. But over the course of our year together, Mr. Meyer encouraged our shenanigans and eccentricities. My best friend Tim and I would sit in the back of the class, reading the newspaper. Mr. Meyer tolerated such behavior! He let us bring Chick-fil-A to class. And at the end of the year, when we took the AP exam, I blanked on one of the key writing prompts. I ended up writing about one of my dad's books. Mr. Meyer was a bit disappointed when he heard that. We were both shocked when I ended up getting a 5 (highest score possible) on the exam. So much of my love for reading - and writing - stems from that year in Mr. Meyer's classroom. And he continued to encourage me after I left Charlotte Christian as a student, including when I came back a few years later as a substitute teacher. Loved learning more about his life and legacy as I read his story on this page. Thoughts and prayers are with his family. What a life he lived. So grateful for how he impacted mine - and so many others.
Blessings, Jacob Whitlow

Trudy's and my thoughts and prayers are hopefully close to the family's hearts in this time of loss. We all trust in our faith of Jerry's eternal life and his infectious smile and humor looking down on us.
Many wonderful memories of our times with Jerry and Sandra. From Houston to Charlotte to Blowing Rock and back to Charlotte. One thing was always certain, we could count on a friendly welcome from Jerry, great food & hospitality, and a reminder of the numerous butt kickings that LSU had handed Texas A&M.
Jerry was such a free spirit who embodied the joy of life. His laid back approach and ability to soak in the positive aspect of most any situation is still admired and strived to be replicated. He will be missed, and hopefully the next time that we see him I'll be able to give him a final Gig Em and a hug.

Sandra- I was shocked to learn of Jerry’s passing. You two were so loved here on Misty Mountain and I did often see Jerry walking the dogs. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. Although I am sure you have many invites- my home is always open to you for a visit.
Love and Peace- Terry McInnis and Gingersnap.
