Obituary of Richard Lee Sumner

Richard Lee Sumner, 71, of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020.  Born on July 18, 1949 in Emporia, Kansas, he was the son of the late Lee and Eileen Reichardt Sumner.  Richard graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor's Degree in 1971.  He worked in the field of accounting for various companies, including Time Warner Cable in Charlotte.  Outside of work Richard enjoyed collecting things such as coins, stamps, and baseball cards.  He was also an avid sports fan, and living in Denver for a number of years, he was a faithful follower of the Denver Broncos, the Colorado Avalanche, and the Colorado Rockies.  After moving to Charlotte, he added the Panthers and the Hornets to his list, always catching their games when he was able.

Richard is survived by his brother, Gary Sumner, of Westcliffe, Colorado; nephew, Evan Sumner, of Johnstown, Colorado, and his children, Mackenzie, Molly, and Landon; and nieces, Valerie Sumner of Wellington, Colorado; and Lauren Sumner of Carbondale, Colorado. 

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his half-brother, Glen Ensminger.
