For over 60 years, Eileen Cooley was my dearest and closest friend. We met in 1955 when both of our husbands were pursuing masters’ degrees at Wheaton College. We prayed for our families and watched them grow over the decades, sharing heartache and happiness. We laughed and cried together. We shopped together. Eileen was always a lady of elegant taste, whether in dress or decor. We typed our husbands’ theses and collaborated with them in their doctoral programs and educational ministries. We lived on the same campuses in Wheaton, Illinois, and in Springfield, Missouri, in the late 1950s and early1960s. But thereafter our paths parted, and we kept in touch by phone, cards, and letters. And later by email. Now she is with the Lord. But cherished memories will be with me till I rehearse them once again with her.
"Whether we live, therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. For to this end, Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living." Romans 14.8-9
