Mr. J was the kind of patient that put a smile on your face every single day. I will never forget him. I am so glad I got to work with him and his amazing wife, Gloria, as his student physical therapist. He was the first patient to ever write me a card and get me a gift... and it it such a reminder to me of how jolly and positive Mr. J was even during the toughest times. He was so appreciative and had so much love and advice to give. I always told him he needed to write a book. People like him are truly rare gems. He was a very inspirational person.
My heart goes out to Gloria and the family.

Don and I have known each other longer than anyone else. We were babies and our parents were good friends.
A memorial service is fitting and I'm sure Don would appreciate it. All Marines should be remembered. They are special people. They sacrifice a lot for us and our country. Some of the best people I've known in my life are Marines. Don is a Marine and I've always admired him for his service as a Marine. He fought in dangerous places during dangerous times. He has a Purple Heart to show for it.
He is an outstanding person and a good friend who will be missed.
I believe he is with our parents now and they are looking out for Dorlaine and I.

Captain Johnson was my Commanding Officer in Morocco in 1967. He was a great leader, a great Marine, and a great friend. It was a privilege and an honor to have him in my life.
My prayers go out to Gloria and his family.

We weep for you Gloria, Jennifer, Michael, and grandchildren!
Don was an incredible man, so loved by his community and persons ouside of your family. What a treasure.
Gloria, you and Don immediately made us feel welcome when we came to Charlotte, and I am so happy that you were able to share in the baptisms of our boys, Liam and Casey. I met you on that very day and was amazed that people Jim had just met would want to attend a religious family gathering with us. I was so touched, and your encouragement and selflessness to our family never waivered over time. You opened your home to Jim like a family member, when we moved back to Atlanta before him. Liam remembers how Don took him to his first sleepaway camp at YMCA Camp Thunderbird when he was 10. I remember fun nights out when you and Don acted half your age...maybe not even that! Don would always brag to the servers and bartenders that YOU were with HIM, and then he'd shake his head in wonder. He adored you Glo, and he made sure we all knew it.
I feel like my family was so blessed to have even a part of him (and you). And years later, even when Don was sick you sent a graduation card to Liam.
Don made the right kind of mark on the world. Loving, caring, companionable, empathetic, compassionate, and truly silly! An incomparable man.
May he rest in peace, and may your hearts be full with the knowledge that he was a blessing beyond the borders of your home, and in the hearts of many.
We love you,
Kimberly Monast (Jim, Liam and Casey)
