I learned about him in school. He ate a ton of bananas and enlisted in WWII.

Dear Paty family, please accept our heartfelt sympathy in the passing of Chuck. He and Sue were wonderful neighbors and we missed them once they moved to the Laurels.
We will pray for the repose of Chuck's soul and for Sue who is always uplifting in her thoughts and words.

I worked with Mr Paty at White Motor Corporation on West Morehead St. and also the Regional Office on East Morehead St. I remember that he put his heart into his work
and was one of the most dedicated people I know. He was very kind and I never heard
him raise his voice - except in laughter. He also brought Camelias from his bush at home
to the ladies in the office. While we were working at the East Morehead Office , I had a
bad experience. While I was in the ladies room (which was down the hall from our office)
a black guy came and started to try to climb into my stall. I screamed and he ran out.
When I got back to the office and told them what happened, Mr. Paty was the only man
who ran and tried to catch him, or to see where he went, and there was probably 6 or 7
other men there. I also worked for Sue on a temporary basis at her place of work
(which I cannot remember the name).
Sue, so sorry for your loss and will remember you in my prayers.

We lived next door to Mr. and Mrs. Paty on Midwood Place when we first moved to Charlotte in 1992. Mr. Paty proved to be a well-spring of information about Plaza-Midwood and went on to write a charming series of articles for the Neighborhood Newsletter recounting his experiences growing up. He entitled it: Bullfrogs and Arched Doors. I'm sure Mr. Paty has left many wonderful legacies to those he loved, but we will always love him for the memories he shared with us.

I had the honor and privilege to interview Chuck Paty many years for the State Archives of North Carolina. I will always treasure the time I spent with him, and the correspondence we carried on. May God rest your wonderful soul, Chuck, and a source if comfort and strength to Sue.

It has been a real pleasure knowing Chuck these past 25 or so years. He was always thoughtful and well spoken and I still hold him as a true example of a gentleman. His work for the Memorial was amazing. He would send for one of the North Carolina's war logs and then run down every reference mentioned in it so that there would be a complete record of the Battleship's war service. He will be missed.
