Obituary of Ruth Weaver

Ruth E. Weaver ?Granny? Mrs. Weaver, 90, of Charlotte, died April 19, 2009 at Golden Living Center. She was born in Charlotte, NC on October 25, 1918, daughter of the late Oscar Franklin Joy and Iva Roseman Joy. Mrs. Weaver grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Paw Creek High School. She worked for Union Carbide, where she met her husband, the late Dean Weaver. Mrs. Weaver was a 48 year member of Covenant United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the choir and The United Methodist Women. She loved fishing and taught all of her grandchildren how to fish. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Mrs. Weaver is survived by her sons, Tim Cox and his wife, Virginia and Billy Joy and his wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Jill, Teresa, Tony, Lorrie, Jamie, Deana and David; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Evan and Elizabeth; brothers, Don Joy and Charles Joy; and a sister, Doris Sisk. Funeral service for Mrs. Weaver will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2009 at Covenant United Methodist Church, 6824 Tuckaseegee Road Charlotte, NC 28214. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 at Hankins and Whittington, 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203. Memorials may be made to Covenant United Methodist Church, 6824 Tuckaseegee Road Charlotte, NC 28214. The writer Henry David Thoreau wrote that he did not want to die only to realize he did not live and ?Time is but a stream I go-a fishin? in.? We have never known anyone else to live life so fully as Granny.
