Obituary of Jerry Goodman

Jerry Martin Goodman, age 69, of Charlotte, NC passed away on December 13, 2012. Beloved son of the late Morris Goodman and Jeanette Borochoff Goodman. Following graduation from Myers Park High School, he attended Wingate College. Jerry started in the music business as a teenager in high school, where he worked for Hi-Fi Camera Store in Charlotte. His record promotions career carried him nationwide and spanned over 40 years. He was awarded over 100 Gold and Platinum albums for his outstanding promotion work with artists such as Queen, The Eagles, Harry Chapin, Jackson Brown, Tony Orlando & Dawn, Three Dog Night, Four Seasons, Jim Croce, and Linda Ronstadt, just to name a few. Jerry was also recognized as Billboard?s national Promotion Man of the year three times. Additionally, Jerry won awards from Radio and Records magazine (R&R) and the Bobby Poe report. His most treasured accomplishment was having the top three Billboard records simultaneously which put him in the Guinness Book of World Records. He also enjoyed working with General Johnson and Chairmen of the Board at Insight Talent. Towards that latter part of his career, he created his own record label called GAD music where he released his own albums featuring various artists. He also released a Christmas album with ?The Impressions? called ?I?m Coming home for Christmas?. Jerry will be remembered for his loving character, generosity, and spontaneous personality. Jerry loved to give to others without expecting anything in return. Jerry loved animals. He loved going to the theatre, traveling to Charleston, Asheville, and especially New York. Jerry also loved putting on the beach music show in Stuart, VA called ?Hot Fun in the Summer Time?. Jerry always enjoys a great glass of red wine, fine dining, and his addiction to clothes. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Mia Wellons-Carlisle and her husband Gregory Harvey Carlisle; and his grandchildren, Spencer Wellons and Masie Wellons of Charlotte; And his brother Allan Jay Goodman and his wife Mary Goodman of Atlanta, GA and his niece and nephew, Anne Bignault and Neil Goodman. He is also survived by his closest and most dear friends, Wayne and Kay King, Tim Eaton, and Larry Payne. In addition, he is also survived by his dear friend of many years, Michael Talent. A memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 19th, 2012 at 3:00pm at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Home 1111 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203. A visitation will follow immediately when the family will receive friends and visitors.
