Obituary of James Patton

James Douglas Patton, age 74, of Charlotte, died Sunday, December 16, 2012 at his home. Mr. Patton was born August 21, 1938 in Charlotte to the late Jimmie Wadsworth and Mildred (Godfrey) Patton. A sister-in-law, Tina, also preceded him in death. Doug was a graduate of Charlotte Central High School, class of 1956 and Western Kentucky University in 1961, with a BSBA. His career included Pattons Inc., American Cooling Inc., Store Fixtures and Planning and H&R Block. He served as President of Charlotte Ski Bees, 1964-1965, President of Charlotte Sales & Marketing Executives and was a member of the Charlotte Civitan Club. Doug was an active member of Sugar Mountain Courtesy Ski Patrol for many years and served as a Boy Scout Leader. He also enjoyed spending time at Lake Wylie. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Jimmie R. Patton; son, Steve Patton; daughter, Sally (Joey) Collins; grandchildren, Justin and Sophie Collins. He is also survived by a brother, John Patton and sister in law, Joyce Ruark; stepmother, Barbara Patton; two nieces and three nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 21, 2012, at Sardis Presbyterian Church, 6100 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC 28270. Burial will be held in Sardis Presbyterian Cemetery immediately following the service. The family will receive friends following the burial in the Education Hall.
