Obituary of Spencer Mims

Spencer Rollins Mims, III Spencer, 55, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013. He was born in Charlotte on April 20, 1957, son of Spencer R., Jr. and the late, Mattie B. Stancill Mims. He was a graduate of Olympic High School and the University of North Carolina ? Chapel Hill where he majored in Radio, Television and Motion Pictures. Spencer?s primary interests were in writing (a number of his poems were published), music, motion pictures and the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team he followed since childhood. Spencer was a life-long member of Mouzon United Methodist Church where he served in the choir and played the trumpet. He was an employee of Virtual Image Technology since 1987. Spencer will be remembered by his family, friends and colleagues as a friendly, kind and talented man. In addition to his father, he is survived by a sister, Deborah M. Poetzsch and her husband, John of Raleigh, NC; brother, Stephen S. Mims and his wife, Caroline Pearson-Mims of Moscow, Idaho; nephew, John D Poetzsch, Jr. and a niece, Courtney Spencer Poetzsch. Services for Spencer will be held at Mouzon United Methodist Church on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Mark Muckler officiating. The family will receive friends in Flynn Hall at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mouzon United Methodist Church, 3100 Selwyn Ave., Charlotte, NC 28209.
