Obituary of Robert Lonon

Robert Clayton Lonon ?Bob? Robert Clayton Lonon, age 66, of Charlotte, NC died on January 10, 2013, beloved son of Irma Louise Johnson Lonon and the late Oscar Graydon Lonon, Jr. Bob was born February 8, 1946 in Washington D.C. Bob graduated from Myers Park High School in 1964. Prior to graduating, Bob was the first Boy Scout to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout at Park Road Baptist Church. Bob continued to be actively involved with the Boy Scouts and was awarded the Order of the Arrow. After high school, Bob went to Raleigh, NC and earned his contractor?s license. He spent many years as a licensed contractor, and was a Home Designer of many local homes and businesses prior to his accident. Initially Bob fell in love with cars, but in his early twenties got into motorcycles and became a lifetime charter member of the American Motorcycle Association. Following his accident, Bob became heavily involved in helping other quadriplegics via Shepard Spinal Institute in Atlanta, Georgia. Bob?s greatest passion was his family and as a result, Bob?s commitment and generosity led to the construction of the Community Center at Park Road Baptist Church. Bob is survived by his mother, Irma Louise Johnson Lonon, sister Julia Lonon Mathews and his brother Oscar Graydon Lonon III, his son Joseph Graydon Lonon and his daughter April Lonon Spurlin,; three grandchildren, Clay, Olivia, and Grace. Bob was preceded in death by his son, Robert Clayton Lonon, Jr. A service of remembrance will be held at Park Road Baptist Church 3900 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209 on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 12 Noon. Inurnment will be private.
