Obituary of Bonnie Courtney

Bonnie Chapman Courtney, 88, of Charlotte, NC died of natural causes on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in the Avanté at Charlotte Nursing Home. Born April 27, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William Leroy and Addie Lee Chapman of Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Courtney is survived by her two sons, Don L. Courtney of Pineville, NC, Ken E. Courtney and his wife, Charlotte and grandson, Keith E. Courtney, all of Loganville, GA; sister, Marjoree Lemmond of Norwood, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Max Erwin Courtney; brothers, Wade and Bill Chapman; sisters, Ethel Hall, Bertha Powell, and Betty Abernathy. Following graduation from Sharon High School, she went to work as a bookkeeper for a local Charlotte businessman until her first child was born. As a life-long member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Mrs. Courtney served as the church Treasure for over 30 years. She began working at the Sedgefield Elementary School cafeteria in 1964 and worked there until retirement. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 26, 2013 in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, 1111 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC, 28203. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park.
