Obituary of Martha Parks Meadows

Martha Wingate Parks Meadows Ms. Meadows, 80, passed away Friday morning, February 15, 2013 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. A native Charlottean, Martha was born February 22, 1932, to the late William Dexter Wingate and Estelle Perry Wingate. Martha attended Harding High School. While raising her family, Martha attended cosmetology school, obtained her license and eventually started her own business. For over 35 years, she served her clients operating Martha?s Beauty Salon at 3408 Joy St., in the Ashley Park area of Charlotte. To provide the best possible life for her family, it was not unusual for Martha to put in 16 hour days. Her work ethic was uncommon, even for her day. Martha was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Larry E. Parks and wife, Diane of Lexington, NC, Dennis W. Parks of Yorktown, VA, Robert L. Parks and wife, Annette of Concord, NC, Patricia P. Combs and husband, Linke of Nashville, TN and Kathy P. Bell and husband, Buster of Waxhaw, NC. Martha?s legacy also includes 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her siblings, Herbert Perry Wingate, Robert Howard Wingate, William Dexter Wingate, Jr., Betty Jean W. Shackleford and Alfred Clarence Wingate. A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Service. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Martha?s name be made to Presbyterian Hospice & Palliative Care, 324 N.
