Obituary of Charles Lookabill

Charles A. Lookabill, Jr. Mr. Lookabill died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at CMC-Pineville. A native Charlottean, Charles was born July 8, 1929, son of the late Charles A Lookabill, Sr. and Maybelle T. Lookabill. He attended Oak Ridge Military Academy and graduated from Central High School in 1949. Charles was in the US Marine Corp before joining the family business, Lookabill Optical Laboratories and was a member of the NC Optometric Society. ?Luke? also enjoyed buying and selling real estate and for a period of time he also owned a local restaurant, Five Steps Down in Myers Park. Luke was a sportsman and enjoyed tennis and golf. He loved his golfing buddies especially, Dick Richardson. Mr. Lookabill was a fabulous dancer and had many good times dancing at American Legion and in Myrtle Beach, SC. Survivors include his children, Charles A Lookabill, III and wife, Beth; Robert Russell Lookabill and wife, Pam; Leslie Lookabill Dettman and husband, Doug; Reg Lookabill; stepson, Scott Widenhouse; brother, Gene Lookabill and wife, Jackie; sister, Linda Lookabill Hall and husband, Pete. Also eight grandchildren survive. Special thanks to his best friend Dan Thigpen. The family will receive friends at Hankins & Whittington Tuesday evening February 19, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 20, 2013, in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave., Charlotte, NC 28203.
