Obituary of James William Nyborg

James William Nyborg, Sr. "Big Jim" Mr. Nyborg, 83, of Charlotte, NC passed away at his home on March 5, 2013 of natural causes. He was born on January 1, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN son of the late Marinus Jacob Christian Nyborg and Matilda Kesting Nyborg. Mr. Nyborg served in The United States Marine Corps.as a Gunnery Sergeant during the Korean War and Cuban Missile Crisis and retired after 22 years of service. Following his retirement from the Marines, he went to work for Piedmont Natural Gas and retired after 24 years. Big Jim has gone onto the eternal Viking hunting grounds to be with his fellow Danish brothers and his favorite hunting dog, Barney. He was a great fighting Dane, extremely proud of his exemplary Danish ancestory. He was a beloved husband, amazing father and doting grandfather who led a self-sacrificing and adventurous life. Once a marine always a marine. He was professionally committed to our nation's defense; so committed that he lied about his age and joined the marines at barely 17 years old. He met the love of his life, his "Bride" as he always called her, in November of 1952. On their third date he had her look for his gloves and instead she found a ring and he said "That's yours. Will you marry me?" Their fourth date was their wedding day, February 21, 1953. Their first child was born February of 1955 and three more would follow. He was known for his 1st Sergeant rules like punctuality and no running in the house. He was equally known for his fun loving, humorous and adventurous ways. At work or play he always gave 100%. He was loved, adored and greatly respected and will be missed. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Lausten, Jeanne Schroers, Marlys Borde and Lucille Groves; half-brothers, Sidney Nyborg, Orville Nyborg and Vernon Nyborg. Mr. Nyborg is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Ella Sue Nyborg; his children, Terry Smith and her husband, Michael of Locust, NC, Jeanne Nyborg of York, SC, James W. Nyborg, Jr. and his wife Angie of Charlotte, NC and Kimberly Nyborg of Charlotte, NC; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marianne Nyborg Soderholm-Berg of Coon Rapids, MN.
