Obituary of Charles Montgomery Corbett

Charles Montgomery Corbett, Jr. Mr. Corbett, 65, died peacefully on March 17, 2013; surrounded by those he laughed with, lived for, and loved. Charlie was a native Charlottean; he was born May 27, 1947, the son of the late Charles Montgomery Corbett, Sr. and Elizabeth Blandina Biggers Corbett. Charlie graduated from Harding High School in 1965 and honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he was stationed at Qui Nhon from January 1967 to January 1968. After the Vietnam War, he returned to Charlotte and earned an associate degree from King's College. Mr. Corbett had a long and successful career as President of a local electrical contracting company until he was forced to retire in 2008 due to his illness. Charlie loved golf, fishing, and the Tar Heels. He was known for his loyalty, tenacity, and courage, but most of all his love for his family, who were the most important people in his life and who he loved with all his heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, Charlie was predeceased by, sisters, Maxine Corbett Black and Dolores Corbett Riley, and his beloved dog, Cookie. Survivors include his daughter, Stacie Corbett Knight, and husband, Patrick; son, Charles Montgomery Corbett, III and wife, Laurie all of Charlotte, NC; sister, Jo Ann Corbett Gowan and her husband, Tommy Gene Gowan, of York, SC. Charlie is also survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Harriet Almond Corbett, of Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, March 21, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. Funeral service for Mr. Corbett will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 22, 2013, in the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675. "Love is stronger than death. Even though love can't stop death from happening, no matter how hard death tries it can't separate people from love. It can't take away our memories either. In the end, love is stronger than death."
