Obituary of Ganson Lloyd Knight

Ganson Lloyd Knight "Ted" Mr. Knight of Charlotte, NC, beloved husband and father, died peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2013, surrounded by his family. Ted was born November 22, 1917 in Union County, NC a son of the late Henry and Melvia Aycock Knight. Mr. Knight served his country during WW II in the Jacksonville shipyard. Ted had a gentlemanly and respectful manner and an independent, entrepreneurial spirit. His first business was a hamburger stand in Kannapolis, NC at the age of eighteen. He owned several other companies during his life including, Knight Mercantile, Knight Brothers Furniture and Moving Company, Knight Construction Company and Knight Realty. Ted retired at the age of 89. In addition to his parents Ted was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian Helms Knight and one grandson. Survivors include his second wife, Betty McElhaney Knight and his children from his first marriage, son, Arthur Richard Knight of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Vivian Knight Jenkins and Teddy Knight Makarow both of Charlotte, NC and Trina Knight Sparnell of Kannapolis, NC; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral service for Mr. Knight will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, March 28, 2013, the chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204.
