Mort was a good friend of mine and my wife Marcia. We socialized and enjoyed each others company. Mort introduced me to the AARP driver safety course which he had taught for many years-and so I became a volunteer instructor and have been teaching for 18 years. I often think of him. He also shared many stories about his work at Macy's. He once told me that he had to bring a check of 100 million dollars to the bank and so I asked him what did the teller say and he replied," He said 'Good Morning' ".
Whenever I visited his home I always marvelled at how the pictures he hung uo always hung absolutely straight-he had put them on two hooks put on with a level-just a measure of his care and precision-a talent he also expressed by being Temple Isaiah's treasurer for many years preceeding his presidency. We also sat next to each other in the temple choir and joined our bass voices. I have many fond memories of him and he will be missed. Claude Springer.

Dear Leavitts, Hello from Bonnie Steinberg, the former Rabbi of Temple Isaiah of Great Neck. I knew both of your parents during the (15 years in all) that I was the Rabbi there. Your dad was the president for a time in the middle there, and I met both of them from the first moments that I was there. They were both smart and supportive. with good humor they were involved and caring. I am sorry to hear of your dad's death. and send you all my condolences. I left Temple Isaiah in 2000- after your mom died. My home email is gen.stein1@verizon.net.
