Obituary of Beverly June Shrum

Beverly June Shrum Ms. Shrum, 63, of Charlotte, NC lost her battle to cancer at her daughter's residence on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. A native Charlottean, Beverly was born January 24, 1950 a daughter of the late Ovid Ray Hill and Lucille Howie Hill of Charlotte, NC. Beverly was a Girl Scout and a faithful leader. She loved cooking, travelling, reading, music, and attending Broadway Plays. She often shared this love with her grandson and daughter. Ms. Shrum was a nurse for over 35 years at Presbyterian Hospital. She travelled to Japan as a missionary nurse, served as a mentor and led as a charge nurse. Beverly was a devoted Christian serving as an Elder in her church and was awarded Presbyterian Woman Life Membership for Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church in 2013. She was known to all as a loving mother, sister, proud grandmother, and true friend. Beverly was a compassionate, selfless person who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Ms. Shrum was a breast cancer survivor of over 15 years. In support of others with cancer, Beverly annually participated in the Susan G. Komen walk and was a coordinator and facilitator for providing meals and support to the Presbyterian Harris Hospice Unit for many years. Surviving in addition to her mother is her daughter, Mandy Beck and her husband, John; brother, David Hill and wife, Cindy; grandsons, Spencer Calvin Beck and Gavin Ray Beck. Also surviving are her niece Laura Johnson and husband, Chad and nephew, Brad Hill and wife, Holly. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, 6701 Pleasant Grove Rd., Charlotte, NC 28216. Interment will follow at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening April 12, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Hankins & Whittington.
